Notice something missing....
Adele has lost her first tooth. She was thrilled. It was a little less eventful (and less bloody) than Caleb's first, but she knocked it out herself while brushing. This one had been loose for some time before hand. With all the excitement of getting her first donation from the "tooth fairy" she felt like sharing... so she gave Caleb half of her goods. How sweet;)

These are cala lillies that we planted in large pots to brighten up our porch.

Our 4 apple trees are very full.

I can almost smell the applesauce.

We got a couple handfuls of cherries off our trees-before the birds got to them. It was pretty hard to get the high hanging ones, but we tried using the trampoline-not so good.

Most of these pictures are for Tim to get a little flavor of how our backyard farm is going. The peas look short in the picture only because some fairly strong winds in a storm a week earlier had blown quite a few vines off of the fence we used to train up the pea plants. (In reality the vines were about twice the height of the fnce and I had to continually wind them down and to the sides to keep them off the ground.) I couldn't get them to wind back around the fencing without breaking some of the vines, so I gave up. We just had to gently move the vines around to find all the peas. The last picture shows one of the three or four large piles of peas that we would get in one pick. I was able to prep and freeze about 31/2 quarts of peas and made a big wok of beef and pea pod stir fry for dinner last week-DELISH!
Adele was by far the all star pea picker and she washed most of them off herself. Then she would usually divide them up into bags for us to save and give away to our friends and neighbors. She is so generous with our produce. I have since pulled up those plants and started a fall crop so hopefully we will have some fresh sugar snaps when Tim arrives home.

I took some pictures with Tim and the kids last week before Tim had to leave for his deployment. I must say I agree with the cliche "I love a man in uniform," especially my man!
Sadly, Ryan is not in these pictures because he is already in NY for his summer visit. Ryan will be home before the end of the blueberry season in our backyard and the raspberry season at our neighbor's farm across the road.

Here are a few pics from Aidan's early birthday party. We wanted to celebrate before Ryan left for his summer visit to NY and before Tim left on his boat.

Aidan's favorite gift was probably the new matchbox car. He loves to make car sounds as he drives it all over the house.

I think Connor knew there was something tasty in those ice cream cones everyone was munching on, but he had to settle for a piece of dry toast.

I picked up a cheap O-ring sprinkler the other day for the kids to have fun with. The dog thought it looked like fun, too, until he realized he was going to get wet. Then he decided to hang out under the tree with Connor.

I know that Caleb looks like we don't feed him in this picture, but he really has a pretty ferocious appetite most days. He just keeps growing straight up. Nearly every time he puts on a pair of long pants I can see his ankles more each time.

Connor is just chillin' under the shade of the apple tree.

i was so excited about all the blooms on the fruit trees. They bloomed at slightly different times, but by now all of the blooms have fallen off and about half of the trees look like they will be very promising. The blueberry bushes are covered with mini green berries and a few flowers that have not yet fallen off. There will be many days of berry eating and maybe some productive picking for us next month.

Caleb came running into the kitchen the other afternoon, while I was preparing dinner to go into the oven, screaming that his tooth had been knocked out! And this is how the story goes...

"I ran into the living room and what I saw was a monster standing straight at my head. I said ' Would you like to fight?' I started to fight , but he knocked my tooth out! Then I cleaned the blood up. And then I went into the living room again and I said nothing. But the monster tried to knock another one of my teeth out. Instead I caught its hand and threw it to Brazil."-Okay this is Caleb's fun version.

The real story is that Caleb and Adele were playing a game involving some scarves I keep for dress up play gear. A game of tug of war ensued and Caleb decided to use his mouth to add some strength to his tugging. Adele with all her red headed energy continues to pull and POP out comes Caleb's tooth. Adele really felt terrible. She cried on and off for about an hour after the event. To help console Caleb and her spirit she waited on him, giving him ice chips to suck on to help stop the blood flow and saying nice things like "Don't worry Caleb it will grow back soon." All the while sobbing "I didn't mean to." After sorting out all the details of the situation I told Adele she must be really strong to have pulled his tooth right out of his mouth. It wasn't even loose. She looked at me with wide eyes and said, "I should be Mr. Incredible!"- the end

Last Friday I bought Tim a chainsaw so we could make firewood out of some dead standing trees behind our house. The very next morning he could hardly wait to get out there and start cutting. While Tim worked hard splitting up the rounds the kids and I loaded and transported the wood to the shed. Caleb and Tim counted 75 rings on the trunk. Upon hearing this Adele exclaims "I didn't know there were trees older than Grandpa Dale!"

Our kids are such hard workers...they even used their bike helmets as hard hats for a safety precaution

We just wanted everyone to see why Aidan and Connor are wearing the same size diaper now, despite the age difference. I think Aidan's legs might actually be thinner than Connor's.

2. I love music....I play the flute, the piano, and someday the violin. I taught piano lessons for 3 years. I plan to continue when my kids are older.

Today we drove 45 minutes to Lewiston. It doesn't have a real mall, but it's the closest town with decent shopping within 2 hours. We were calmly eating our dinner at Sharp's Ranch House on the main drag, which happens to be a very busy four lane road, when a cow ran down the road outside the window. So if anyone was thinking of making Idaho jokes the next time they saw us you had better make 'em good cause otherwise we'll have a true story that can top it. Idaho may also be the only state where you can drive an ATV anywhere but on the Interstate........and people do.

Adele was potty trained today. Without cloth diapers to hold her pants up, there's no way we're going to get anything to stay on her. She's not quite as skinny as Caleb yet, but she's well on her way.

The first time we tried, about 2 months ago, it didn't really work out. I took Ryan and Caleb out all day so Sarah could concentrate on Adele without interruptions. First we went to a local children's science center. That didn't last long, apparently they are closed on Mondays. So then we decided to go try to get some turkeys to gobble. That didn't work so well either, but Caleb fell asleep in the car, so it wasn't a complete loss.
Adele's hair is turning out to be pretty curly.

She's aware that everyone thinks she's cute, and uses it to her advantage whenever possible. Maybe that's what comes of little girls when they turn 2.

This is from last summer. There is nothing Caleb loves more than shooting up some old milk jugs. The problem is that even at 15 feet he still can't quite get them without some help.

Now we have a little rifle that is made for kids, it's perfect for Ryan, but Caleb still needs help. If Adele learns to listen better, she'll get to start this coming summer.......she still just loves to ignore us most of the time....but sometimes, if we are lucky, she tells us "NO" or "Don't tell me what to do!"

Caleb had a tough day today. He didn't quite make it all the way through dinner. Yesterday, he was in better form. That's him washing his hair in the bathroom sink with Sarah's conditioner and a nail brush.

Lake Coeur d'Alene and Fishing

This past weekend we went up to a Lake CDA resort for a little bit of relaxation time with Ryan before he left for the summer. We spent most of the time bumming around, but we did end up going for a little hike on some BLM land just above the lake. It consisted of about 3 miles of switchbacks with a half mile walk along the ridge between going up and coming down. It took us a while because Caleb and Adele both walked the majority of the way. This made our run-in with a guy in the parking lot even more funny. When we got to the bottom of the hill there was this guy, probably in his late 20's, getting ready to do the same hike we had just done. He had to have been wearing a few hundred dollars worth of hiking gear, from books to day pack and even including a set of trekking poles. If he was wearing a full pack, you would have thought he was heading out to tackle the Appalachian trail or something. The funny part was his bumper sticker.

I think Micheal Moore is more in touch with reality than that guy.

Yesterday I took Caleb and Adele fishing when we got back from CDA. Adele caught more trout than I did, but that's probably because I was trying to keep track of both of them and watch the poles at the same time. Adele formulated her first sentence which was either "me got fish" or "me caught fish". She does nothing but repeat "bish, bish, bish" whenever she's got one on the line. She also filled her limit of trout, which neither me nor Caleb did.

Today we went fishing again. Adele was even more excited about fishing today. She may have gotten a little too excited when she had a good 12 inch fish on the line. I bent down to get the stringer and she chucked the pole into the lake. The fish obliged by swimming off, taking the pole with him. I tried to snag the pole with my rod, but I also had a fish on and that didn't really help out with snagging it. The guys a little ways down the shore seemed sympathatic, but I'm sure they'll be laughing about more than I will be. We didn't quite come home with our limit, but I mustly spent the next 45 minutes dredging the lake bottom with a spinner in the vain hope I would snag the lost pole.

Due to Dad's Whining

So, we gave into Dad’s whining about never seeing pictures of our kids…..I imagine it has something to do with his memory as we send some to him relatively frequently. Finals just finished so life is a little easier, we just put in a second set of seedlings after the frost killed everything in our garden except the cabbage, Adele has a new set of facial bruises from using a chair as a rocking horse at just the right distance from the window that the result was a face plant into the window sill, and as of next week Ryan will be “done” with school even though he has three more weeks of required attendance. Sarah joined the softball league even though she has never played softball before, I shot my first turkey, and we’re waited to see if Sarah will draw a moose tag for this fall.
